Can we talk about the sports tourism economy and it’s impact on the regions coronavirus response? Really, the greater us as a whole thanks to public facilities districts and the animal that is collegiate sports. And golf I like to talk about golf these days.

I guess not.

Oops, sorry. New to the platform I didn't see your first comment. Spokane certainly prides itself on punching above its weigh in sports tourism. Lots of interest on the part of city leaders in doubling down, especially in the regional market (hs tournaments, etc).

Collegiate sports, especially football, are a whole other beast.

In short, I guess that I seriously fear they will cram kids in schools to try and save the economy.

It seems to be what they're trying to do, and using the passion and good will of teachers as cannon fodder for a bad policy

No worries! Always gotta work through those quirks, plus I’ve gotten used to talking to myself in an echo chamber during isolation haha!

On the topic of Yakima, and the explosive amount of cases and the communities impacted I always look as far back to the tourney at the sun dome, Tacoma dome, and of course, our arena hosted games. While folks nationwide were canceling the push from WA Dept of Health, WIAA and everyone else in leadership were surprising, if not startling. It was at the very least eye-opening and made me deeply consider our motives locally since February.

1.) "A $19.2 billion market in the US, means the youth sports market rivals the size of the $15 billion NFL. Youth sports markets are comprised of segments that represent revenue generation from travel, equipment, team membership, facility construction, software, and venue rental. Leagues who purchase and distribute sports software to teams or clubs have created a large market from what were previously disparate parts of what was not ever not even a market, just people buying clothes and equipment, and loosely organized groups of youth playing games on community fields."

$77.6B projected by 2026, just in youth sports.

2.) This seems like a ton of growth because as of 2017 -2018 that markest was still huge but was only estimated to be $17b...

3.a)If so, is that impacting our COVID19 response?

4.) Spokane seems to be pretty exposed by it. The Seattle Times said that Spokane leads cities reeling from hammer blows of sports,

That's really fascinating and seems analogous to what happens in larger cities with professional teams/stadiums, but since that can't happen in cities like ours the focus shifts to youth/college/semi-pro/touring events?

17B - 77 B in a decade seems like a stretch, though if all other sports markets are mature then maybe there's no where else for growth to go?

Wild.
