Luke, love what you’re doing with this podcast and this episode especially hits home for me. Thank you Chris and Bryce for bringing a fresh perspective from the Evangelicals side. As someone who also grew up in the church, got burned, and walked away, I’m still trying to come to terms with the rift between myself and my family and friends who still live in the Conservative Christian echo chamber. It’s a culture that is so baked in, hard to break out of, and then hard not to feel ostracized from, especially among family. I’m the guy still trying to have those hard conversations with family, especially about why I’m no longer a believer and the state of our country and political system, but it always feels like the same one-sided conversation that goes nowhere. This conversation feels a lot more open and productive. Thank you. Keep up the good work. I look forward to listening to more episodes.

I feel tremendously fortunate for the conversation as well, Gary. Thanks for taking the time to reach out. It's a tough thing, for sure.

Luke, I really appreciated this episode. So many themes that resonate with me and my experiences growing up in the church. I thought I was alone and I am learning how many folks have had similar experiences, who are asking similar questions as me. Thanks for this gift!

Luke! You’re killing it man. This episode is just what I needed during the holidays. I knew Chris Bovey was amazing from his Vintage Prints work and how he finds beauty to celebrate in every town and neighborhood, but this blew my mind. My wife and I had a similar experience years ago in our little Mead church that, on the surface, that excepted everyone. We thought our little group was the salt of the earth, until on day a church elder went on a diatribe spitting the word, “diversity” out of his mouth like it was acid and instead of being met with at least uncomfortable silence he was met with positivity. Shortly thereafter the “guest pastor” was a conspiracy nut spreading her insanity to the whole congregation about everything from the new world order to contrails (this was all pre-45). That was our last day in the church.

I have to thank you too for my new social media mantras from Bryce: “I refuse to argue with someone who John Brown would have shot,” and, “listen to learn, not to respond,” when dealing with those kinds of people.

I love what you’re doing. Keep it up.

God what a brutal story, Luke. Glad your family had the wherewithal to leave. I know a lot of people who haven't. It's a traumatic thing walking away from community. Hopefully you've found something -- a faith community or otherwise -- to replace it.

Love Brice's quotes, too. Especially the John Brown one.
